Introduction ​

trxy™, operated by TRXY (Pty) Ltd ("we," "our," or "us"), is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and related services.

Information We Collect ​

Information You Provide ​

  • Account Information: Username, email address, and profile information
  • User Content: Challenge posts, comments, photos, and other content you share
  • Location Data: Skateboarding spot locations you choose to share (when you use location features)

Automatically Collected Information ​

  • Usage Data: App features accessed, challenges created/accepted, and interaction patterns
  • Device Information: Device type, operating system, and app version
  • Analytics Data: Performance metrics and crash reports to improve app stability

Instagram Integration ​

We monitor public comments and mentions involving the Trxy Instagram account (@trxy.skateboarding) to enable community-driven challenge creation.

What Triggers It ​

When you publicly comment on a Trxy Instagram post, or mention @trxy.skateboarding in a comment on Instagram, using our simple challenge format (for example, "@trxy.skateboarding challenge anyone to kickflip"), Trxy processes that comment.

What We Collect ​

From the public comment we receive:

  • Your public Instagram username
  • The text of your comment
  • The Instagram comment and media (post) identifiers
  • The timestamp of the comment

We do not access private messages, private accounts, your follower list, or any data beyond the public comment that triggered the interaction.

How We Use It ​

We analyze your comment text with a deterministic, rule-based parser (simple keyword matching) to detect a challenge request and the trick named. We do not use AI/ML services for this feature, and we do not share your comment text or username with any third party. When a challenge request is recognised, Trxy:

  • Creates a public skateboarding challenge in the Trxy app
  • Replies to your comment thread, crediting you by your Instagram username and linking to the challenge you inspired

No additional personal data is shared in the public reply.

No Opt-In Required ​

This feature processes public Instagram comments and mentions automatically. By publicly commenting on or mentioning @trxy.skateboarding on Instagram in the challenge format, you consent to this processing.

Data We Store ​

  • Instagram username — to credit you; and, if you choose to link your Instagram account to Trxy, your Instagram user ID, so challenges can be matched to your Trxy account
  • Comment text, comment/media identifiers, and timestamps — kept in an event log for attribution, audit, and to avoid processing the same comment twice
  • The resulting challenge and references to the originating comment and our reply

Data Retention & Deletion ​

We retain the above for as long as needed to provide the feature and for audit purposes. You may request deletion of your Instagram username and associated data at any time — delete your account or data from within the Trxy app settings, or contact support.

Permissions We Request ​

Camera Permission ​

We may request access to your device's camera to allow you to:

  • Capture photos and videos of skateboarding tricks for challenge submissions
  • Take profile photos
  • Share skateboarding content within the app

You can choose to deny camera access, but photo/video features will be limited.

Location Permission ​

We request location access to:

  • Show nearby skateboarding spots on the map
  • Help you discover local skate locations
  • Share spot locations with the community

Location access is optional and can be controlled in your device settings.

How We Use Your Information ​

We use your information to:

  • Provide and maintain the trxy™ service
  • Enable social features like challenges, follows, and timeline updates
  • Process public Instagram mentions to enable community-driven challenge and spot creation
  • Send notifications about challenge activity and updates
  • Improve app functionality and user experience
  • Ensure security and prevent fraud
  • Comply with legal obligations

Information Sharing ​

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information:

  • With Other Users: Profile information, challenges, and content you choose to make public
  • Service Providers: Third-party services that help us operate the app (Supabase for backend services)
  • Google Services: Location names are shared with Google Places API to retrieve spot imagery
  • Instagram/Meta: We post responses back to Instagram crediting users for contributions
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect rights and safety

Government & Public Authority Requests ​

TRXY (Pty) Ltd requires any public authority requesting user personal data to follow valid legal process (for example, a court order, subpoena, or equivalent lawful demand). We review each request for legal validity and scope, and we challenge or refuse requests that are overbroad, vague, or legally deficient. We disclose only the minimum data legally required. We maintain records of each such request, including our response and the legal reasoning and parties involved. We notify affected users of requests concerning their data unless we are prohibited by law from doing so or the request relates to a genuine emergency.

Data Security ​

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information, including:

  • Encrypted data transmission
  • Secure authentication via Supabase Auth
  • Row-level security policies in our database
  • Regular security audits

However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

Your Rights and Choices ​

You have the right to:

  • Access, update, or delete your account information
  • Control privacy settings for your profile and content
  • Opt out of non-essential notifications
  • Request a copy of your data
  • Request removal of your Instagram username from challenges or spots you inspired
  • Opt out of future Instagram mention processing by contacting support
  • Delete your account

Children's Privacy ​

trxy™ is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy ​

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email.

Data Retention ​

International Users ​

trxy™ is operated by TRXY (Pty) Ltd. Your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries other than the one in which you reside — including any country where we and our service providers operate — which may have data-protection laws different from those in your country. By using the app, you consent to this transfer and processing.
